Today’s spotlight article is dedicated to AWE: A Technothriller by Pierre R. Schwob. This Amazon bestseller has been recently released in audiobook format. It is narrated by SOVAS Voice Arts Award winner Jordan Kilgore and has a runtime of almost 10 hours.
I am always interested in a good techno thriller, so immediately after receiving this audiobook for review, I started listening. Although I’m not done yet, I believe that the writing is good, the story is interesting, and the narration is excellent.
Before I introduce you to our author and narrator, let’s take a look at the Publisher’s Summary for AWE: A Technothriller.
AWE (the Artificial Wisdom Engine) is developed by our heroes to avert a catastrophic tipping point predicted by a climate model. AWE must also combat pernicious disinformation, particularly the fake news generated by an industrialist—a psychopathic and murderous antagonist linked to Putin, who is determined to protect his and his clients’ interests.
The team is led by Renaissance man Pic de Lucrète and Lily Lee, an off-scale smart young mathematician whose Chinese family still suffers from the effects of the Tiananmen Massacre. The action moves from Palo Alto and Stanford to Moscow, Tokyo, and Beijing. Eventually, Xi Jinping lends China’s might to the effort, establishing the notion that international cooperation is vital, alongside scientific rigor, to solve global issues.
The author, Pierre R. Schwob, has published books on chess, calculators, and history. He taught computer science at several universities. Owner of several patents, one of his inventions became part of the U.S. national standard. His passion for astrophysics and cosmology brought him to research labs worldwide, the highest observatories, and deepest mines, and to the South Pole among other striking locations. Asteroid (32890) Schwob has graciously been named after him. He is a long-time member of the SETI Institute’s Board of Directors. He is the founder/CEO of ClassicalArchives, and he lives in Palo Alto.
Jordan Kilgore is an actor, narrator, and voiceover artist based in Maryland. He graduated from Oklahoma City University with a BFA in Acting and a minor in Directing. Performing onstage as well as in the booth, Jordan has been seen in various theatrical productions in the mid-Atlantic region. Favorite stage roles include Cliff in Cabaret, the titular role in Dracula, and Prospero in The Tempest. Jordan has narrated audiobooks across a variety of genres, including science-fiction, horror, thriller, and kids’ non-fiction; and also works in other areas of voiceover, having recently won a SOVAS Voice Arts Award for his work in e-learning.
