Review: Kargaroth by Mark B. Frost and Andrew Bunny, read by William Turbett
Kargaroth is the first novel in the Daemon’s Song series written by Mark B. Frost and Andrew Bunny. This is a tale of Epic proportions constructed with care and passion by the two talented authors. With a sprawling world, expansive character development, vivid descriptions and a superb story, Kargaroth is a beautiful, original and immersive narrative experience.
Just in order to spark your interest, I can tell you that Kargaroth is a legendary dark sword, powerful beyond imagination that corrupts his bearer. When desperate times call for desperate actions, the evil within the sword comes to light.
Filled with valiant heroes, vengeful Gods, intense action scenes, wars, betrayal, murder, politics and mysteries, Kargaroth is a very promising first book in a series that could become a staple of the Epic Fantasy genre in the years to come.
Sadly, this great story could have been even more enjoyable and immersive if it was narrated by a top tear voice-over artist. I’m sure that William Turbett tries his best in order to capture the scope and scale of Kargaroth, but he didn’t manage to connect with me as the listener for the over 22 hours in which I tried to get immersed into this compelling novel. At times, he reads too fast, he does not use consistent voices for the characters, he overacts some parts and the audio production is not the best quality…
As much as I enjoyed Kargaroth’s story, I can’t get over the fact that a more skilled narrator could have elevated the listening experience to an entire new level! Don’t get me wrong, a lot of listeners might enjoy Mr. William Turbett’s narration, but I did not. I suggest that you listen to the sample and decide for yourself.
Narration aside, Kargaroth is a fantastic book that all Epic Fantasy fans should consider!
I also post reviews or articles at the author, narrator, or publisher’s request, so, if you are in need of assistance in finding the perfect narrator for your book or just want to have a review on my blog, do get in touch.
