Review: Pandora’s Grave by Stephen England
Pandora’s Grave is the first book in the Shadow Warriors series of thrillers by best-selling author Stephen England and I’m really glad to tell you that he did a fantastic job with it, setting the stage like an old master of the Adventure genre, instantly pulling the reader into a riveting and thrilling plot. It reminds me of the old Clive Cussler books and that’s a really good thing.
The story opens with a tragic event that took place thousands of years ago in what’s now Iran and after that it picks up in present days. The main character is Harry Nichols, a veteran paramilitary officer with the Clandestine Service sent to the Alborz Mountains of northwestern Iran as part of a black ops mission. The action moves blazingly fast from the US to Iran and to Israel, keeping you on the edge of your seat with lots of twists and turns. We meet an US president who will do everything to be reelected, an Iranian leader set on destroying the World as we know it and a team of special forces sent to rescue a group of captives.
Pandora’s Grave is an immersive book about religion, an ancient evil, biological weapons, black ops, politics and brave men. Be warned! Start it when you have time on your hands because you’ll not be able to put it down. I really enjoyed the mystery behind the story, the lifelike characters, the interesting locations, the suspense and the covert operations. I must point out and applaud the respect Mr. England showed towards the special operators, it’s clearly how much he admires and respects their work and service.
The audiobook version of Pandora’s Grave is performed by Michael C. Gwynne. He is a good narrator, acting the entire book with passion and enthusiasm, using a multitude of different voices and accents to bring all the characters to life. Sadly, sometimes he seems to be overacting everything…
I’m convinced that a lot of research has gone into writing Pandora’s Grave and I think that all Thriller and Adventure fans will enjoy this 1st book in the Shadow Warriors series. As I mentioned at the beginning of this review, Mr. England delivers a thrilling and unputdownable adventure similar to those written by Clive Cussler, Robert Ludlum and other amazing forefathers of the Thriller genre..
