Audiobook Review: The Night Fire by Michael Connelly

The Night Fire is the latest novel in the amazing Harry Bosch series of Police Procedurals from #1 New York Times Best-Selling and Award-Winning author, Michael Connelly.

The story follows retired Los Angeles Police Department Detective Harry Bosch and his new friend, LAPD Detective Renée Ballard. Renée is working the night shift and has to deal with all kind of crimes, big and small, that are taking their toll on the young woman. She was introduced to the readers in The Late Show, and has been working alongside Bosch on cold cases since last year’s excellent Dark Sacred Night.

In The Night Fire, both Harry and Ballard must unravel a decades-old unsolved and hidden crime and as always, Michael Connelly is the best at what he does, keeping the reader on the edge of his seat from the first word to the last. You can find out more about the plot from the Publisher’s Summary, if you want, but I suggest that you go in blind, is better that way…

The audiobook version of The Night Fire is narrated by two extremely talented actors, Titus Welliver, who also plays Harry Bosch in the Amazon Studios Original Series, and Christine Lakin. Both are at the top of their game and bring all the characters to life with love and passion. Performing their individual chapters and interacting with one another when both are involved in the action raises the level of immersion for the listener and delivers a vivid narrative experience on all fronts…

There are a lot of things to say about The Night Fire, but I don’t want to spoil the experience for any of you. Sufficient to say that fans of Harry Bosch will have their heart in their collective throats many times during this adventure. I treasured The Night Fire, listening to it for only one hour every day, because I wanted to extend my time with Harry and Renée for as long as possible.

Now, i’ll have to wait another year, but a new book, Fair Warning, will be out in May from Michael, from a different series and that’s good enough for me, as I appreciate the quality over quantity all the time…
