Hello again, dear audiobooks friends! In today’s article, I want to shine a spotlight on Even in Darkness, an award-winning novel which has been recently released in audiobook format. This historical drama is based on a true story and it is written by Barbara Stark-Nemon.

The audio production is narrated by Jilly Bond, a respected voiceover artist in the audiobooks industry, with a number of Earphones Awards from the reputable AudioFile Magazine. Since its original publication in 2015, Even in Darkness has garnered numerous literary awards and I am really glad to see such quality work making its way to listeners around the world.

What I learned about the story after reading the Publisher’s Summary raised my interest even further for Even in Darkness. Let’s take a look at it and after that, I will tell you a few things about these extraordinary professionals who wrote and performed this audiobook.

Spanning a century and three continents, Even in Darkness tells the story of Klare Kohler, whose origins in a prosperous German-Jewish family hardly anticipate the end of her long life in a loving relationship with Ansel, a German priest half her age.

In between lies a harrowing saga of families, a lover, two world wars, and the Holocaust. Based on a true story, Even in Darkness highlights the intimate experience of Klare’s reinvention as she faces the destruction of life as she knew it, and traces her path not only to survival, but to wisdom, meaning, and most unexpectedly, love.

Barbara Stark-Nemon, author of award-winning novels Even in Darkness and Hard Cider, lives, writes, cycles, swims, does fiber arts and gardens in Ann Arbor and Northport, Michigan. She has degrees in English literature, art history and speech-language pathology from the University of Michigan and worked with deaf and language disabled children. Even in Darkness is historical fiction based on a family story in 20th century Germany. Hard Cider, contemporary fiction, is set in northern Michigan. Jilly Bond has recorded over 300 audiobooks and has won four AudioFile Magazine Earphones Awards. She also regularly appears on stage, including performances at the National Theatre, the Birmingham Repertory Theatre, The Lowry Theatre, and in the Edinburgh and London Fringe Festivals. I will come back with a review for Even in Darkness in the following period, but until then take care, stay safe and don’t forget, always listen with your heart!
