Let me help you discover the award-winning novel Guesthouse for Ganesha by Judith Teitelman
Hello again, dear audiobooks friends! In today’s article, I want to shine a spotlight on another interesting novel which is available in audiobook format. Guesthouse for Ganesha is the award-winning debut literary work of well-traveled author Judith Teitelman. The audio production has a length of almost 12 hours and is performed by two accomplished narrators, Fajer Al-Kaisi and Soneela Nankani.
From the Publisher’s Summary below, we can learn more about this drama set against the backdrops of the European Holocaust, and after that, I invite you to discover some interesting facts about the author and narrators:
In 1923, 17-year-old Esther Grünspan arrives in Köln “with a hardened heart as her sole luggage.” Thus begins a 22-year journey, woven against the backdrops of the European Holocaust and the Hindu Kali Yuga (the “Age of Darkness” when human civilization degenerates spiritually), in search of a place of sanctuary. Throughout her travails, using cunning and shrewdness, Esther relies on her masterful tailoring skills to help mask her Jewish heritage, navigate war-torn Europe, and emigrate to India.
Esther’s traveling companion and the novel’s narrator is Ganesha, the elephant-headed Hindu God worshipped by millions for his abilities to destroy obstacles, bestow wishes, and avenge evils. Impressed by Esther’s fortitude and relentless determination, born of her deep – though unconscious – understanding of the meaning and purpose of love, Ganesha, with compassion, insight, and poetry, chooses to highlight her story because he recognizes it is all of our stories – for truth resides at the essence of its telling.
Weaving Eastern beliefs and perspectives with Western realities and pragmatism, Guesthouse for Ganesha is a tale of love, loss, and spirit reclaimed.
Judith Teitelman has straddled the worlds of arts, literature, and business since she was a teenager and worked her first job as a salesperson at a B. Dalton/Pickwick Bookstore. Life’s journeys took her from bookstores to commercial fine art galleries to the nonprofit arts and cultural sector, in which she has worked as staff, consultant, and educator for more than three decades. Throughout this time, Judith continued her pursuit of all things literary. Guesthouse for Ganesha is her award-winning debut novel. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband and three beloved cats.
Narrator Fajer Al-Kaisi is an Iraqi-Canadian actor for the stage and screen as well as an experienced voice over artist and audiobook narrator. He grew up in Montreal Canada, and now resides in New York city. He holds a masters in Fine Arts from the University of Texas at Austin (Hook em Horns!) where he studied under such notables as Franchelle Stewart Dorn and Lee Abraham.
Soneela Nankani is a classically trained Brooklyn-based actress and an award-winning narrator with 200+ titles. She has garnered 9 Earphone awards, Audie and SOVAS nominations. Her audiobooks have been featured in Best Audiobooks lists by AudioFile Magazine (2016, 2019) and The Washington Post (2018, 2020). She is adept at accents and has narrated works in many genres.
I started listening to Guesthouse for Ganesha, I love the flowing writing style and the narration, so stay tuned for my full review, but until then take care, stay safe and don’t forget, always listen with your heart!
