Review: Six Moons, Seven Gods – The Legends of Baelon, Book 1, written and narrated by Robert A. Walker

Six Moons, Seven Gods is a fantastic first chapter and an excellent introduction to the acclaimed fantasy series The Legends of Baelon by multi-award-winning author – and in this case, also extremely talented narrator – Robert A. Walker. The series is already gaining recognition and a lot of awards from literary professionals in the fantasy world, but I know we audiobook listeners experience things differently, so this review is for those curious about how the audiobook version presents itself.
Without giving too much away, I can say that the story is very well written, follows multiple characters, and is set in the kingdoms of Baelon. From thieves to kings, from secret guilds to assassins, everyone has a role to play in this captivating adventure filled with mystery, intrigue, and secrets.
I had a great time listening to this audiobook, and I am eagerly awaiting the release of Two Crowns, Three Blades, Book 2 in The Legends of Baelon series. Six Moons, Seven Gods is extremely entertaining and immersive as an audiobook because Mr. Walker is not only a terrific author but also a very good narrator. He reads in a pleasant and engaging way, bringing the story to life and assigning distinct voices to each of the main characters, which makes dialogues flow naturally and adds depth to their personalities.
I always find it fascinating to hear authors narrate their own books, as they have an intimate understanding of their characters and world. In this case, things worked out more than satisfying, as Mr. Walker’s performance enhances the story rather than just delivering it.
The audio quality is solid, with clear and well-balanced sound. While there are a few small background noises here and there, they are minimal and do not detract from the experience in any way.
It is always nice to find new fantasy audiobooks, but it is rare to discover ones that are as good and as original as this one. This is not just a good audiobook but a great one, sure to delight and please fantasy fans around the world. I truly hope this series will continue to entertain us for many years to come.
