Spotlight: Brett Enters the Square Circle by David D. D’Aguanno
Hello again, dear Audiobooks Fans! As you may remember, I already reviewed and highlighted a few books by this author on my blog and today is time for a new one. Brett Enters the Square Circle is book 5 in the Brett Cornell Mysteries Series by David D’Aguanno. As with all other books in this series, the audiobook is narrated by Travis Henry Carter, is over 8 hours and a half in duration, and it is once again self-published by the author.
We glimpse the following plot lines from the Publisher’s Summary:
Where in the world is Stacey Ashton?
Stacey herself told her employer that she was leaving for Philadelphia on personal business.
But Melanie Foster suspects that the girl has run off to Florida with her husband instead.
Enter private detective and self-proclaimed unscrupulous bastard Brett Cornell who attempts to discover Stacey’s true whereabouts, only to learn that she may actually have been murdered – and that the murder took place a lot closer to home.
In this fifth Brett Cornell detective novel set in the late 1980s, Brett finds himself pitted against a group of particularly deceitful and unpredictable characters.
And at the same time, he is about to imperil those stunning Adonis-like features of his when he enters the boxing arena in a major bout that may very well turn out to be a life-changing experience for him.
When asked about the Brett Cornell Series, Mr. D’Aguanno says the following:
“I started writing the Brett Cornell novels over twenty years ago, which accounts for the 1980s setting of Brett’s adventures. The novels are not meant to be entirely realistic. That is, in the real world, Brett would certainly have been murdered by somebody whom he’d ripped off or victimized in some manner. Plus, it’s highly unlikely that he would get away with even a small amount of the unscrupulous behavior he exhibits, especially since he never pays for anything, and pretty much does exactly as he pleases with little or no regard for the law, or even simple rules of civility.
At the same time, I’m hoping that his wisecracks and outrageous conduct might come across as humorous and entertaining, and a certain catharsis may even be felt when Brett gets what he deserves — which happens more often than not, throughout the course of the nine novels I have completed, so far.”
From his dedicated page on Audible we find out that David Dennis was born, raised, and educated in Providence, Rhode Island, and chose a career in teaching English in a neighboring city. Ever since he was in fifth grade, he’s enjoyed writing stories of one sort or another, and while attending college, he became immersed in the writing of a gigantic fictional family saga. Much later, he basically extracted one of the sub-plots of that family saga and expanded it into the present novel “Why She Left Us.”
I will post a review for Brett Enters the Square Circle in the upcoming weeks, but I am sure that I’ll enjoy David D’Aguanno‘s new story as much as I did his previous ones.
