Audiobook Review: Shaker by Scott Frank

FacebooktwitterFacebooktwitter

Award Winning American screenwriter, film director, and author. Scott Frank wrote one of the best thrillers that I listened to in recent memory. His novel, Shaker is an absolutely amazing narrative experience. From the noire streets of LA, to the complete immersion, to its fantastic characters and to the brilliantly written plot, this is a masterpiece.

Reminiscent of Stephen King’s The Shawshank Redemption and of other dramatic stories by Don Winslow, Shaker will grab you by the neck and will not let you go until its heartbreaking end. You’ll meet an assassin for hire, a group of gangbangers, a troubled Police detective, a mom looking for a lost child and many others, all of them shrouded in dark secrets…

Dion Graham is the perfect narrator for this story set in the City of Angels. He is in stellar form and delivers an amazing performance, giving life with passion and talent to all the deeply developed characters.

If you like dark thrillers, dramatic stories ripped from the headlines and lifelike characters, Shaker is exactly what you are looking for. Grabbed it from Audible at Stephen King’s suggestion and listened to it late into the night, tossing and turning, not willing to stop, but I had to. Woke up, started again early next day until and I kept going until I finished it. I was left breathless, waiting for more, hoping for more, but that was the end, and it was the right way to end.

I hope from all my heart that Scott Frank, the brilliant mind behind the blockbuster movie Logan will write more excellent books in the future…
