Bronze Seeks Silver: Lessons from a Creative Career in Marketing by Ad veteran Mat Zucker, out now as audiobook
Hello again, dear audiobooks friends! In today’s spotlight article I want to tell you about a really interesting new audiobook. Bronze Seeks Silver: Lessons from a Creative Career in Marketing by renowned Ad veteran Mat Zucker should be a really captivating memoir for those interested in ads, marketing, and communications.
I especially appreciate the fact that this is written and narrated by the author. With a runtime of just four hours, this will probably be a really fast and enjoyable audio experience.
Ad veteran Mat Zucker, former creative executive at Ogilvy & Mather and current senior partner at Prophet, has released a book tracing his nearly 30-year career in marketing. Half-memoir, half-guidebook, Bronze Seeks Silver: Lessons from a Creative Career in Marketing offers up stories and lessons about selling brands, building client relationships, and managing careers, available in paperback, ebook, and now as an audiobook.
Each chapter yields lessons from indelible career experiences. For example:
- Getting your foot in the door (You Only Have to Walk This Pet Once)
- How to get promoted (What Does It Take for a Secretary to Get Flowers)
- Handling a layoff (Help for the Drowning)
- Earning respect from customers (Clients Are People)
- Management mistakes (What They Sometimes Leave Out)
- Going big with ideas (Search for the World’s Greatest Salesperson)
The book has received praise from industry professionals such as Tom Fishburne, Creator of Marketoonist and Author of Your Ad Ignored Here, who said:
“Bronze Seeks Silver is an insightful and funny three-decade-long travelogue in the world of marketing. Through the serendipitous twists and turns of his career, Mat Zucker reminds us that we’re each in charge of our own.”
Nancy Hill, Founder of Media Sherpas and former CEO and President of the American Association of Advertising Agencies noted:
“Anyone with more than 10 years in the agency business could have written a version of this book, but we didn’t. That’s what makes it so brilliant. You can see yourself and many people you’ve worked with in virtually every scenario. Genuine and funny!“
David Aaker, Vice Chairman of Prophet and Award-Winning Author of over 12 books on the subject of brand and marketing said:
“A terrific book full of stories. The achievements and the highs, the challenges and the lows, the great and not-so-great leaders, how some organizations supported, and others made things difficult. There are a lot of learnings here that come from Mat’s honest portrayal of a fascinating career route.”
SELECT EXCERPTS:
“Maureen had me interview with each creative director I’d assist. A few were semi-famous for semi-famous ad campaigns, such as Mark and Nanette for Grey Poupon (“Pardon Me, Is that Grey Poupon?”), or Ellen for Pantene (“Don’t Hate Me Because I’m Beautiful”). I was in awe to meet people whose words had become part of popular culture. Years later, I’d learn how far you can go with one famous piece of work. And that the corollary was true too: you can only go so far without one.” — Chapter 2: What Does It Take For A Secretary To Get Flowers
“Alicia Keys thanked me for staying up so late to talk about the commercial for BlackBerry. ‘What have you been up to?’ asked the star in a raspy voice who just got off stage in front of 300,000 fans in Brazil. I looked at my stack of neatly folded laundry. ‘Busy here. All good.’ Rock stars like optimism.” — Chapter 12: Last Gaspberry
