Review: If I Were a Snowflake by Rodrigo Dobry
If I Were a Snowflake is a wonderfully written and imaginative poem by Rodrigo Dobry. With this poem, this tremendously talented author invites the listener to embark on a contemplative journey around the world, filled with adventure, drama, meaning, and substance. The writing is sublime, the idea is fresh and original, the storytellers are the billions of snowflakes falling down from the dark skies upon this world of ours, and the main characters are regular, everyday people, struggling to make the best with their lives.
From wintery cities to cold oceans to frozen forests and misty mountains, from Pole to Pole, from Everest to Tibet to the Great Wall and all the way to the frozen lands of the North, snowflakes fall from the heavens, see everything and forget nothing.
We will be instantly swept away on wings of wind and hearts of snow on an unforgettable journey filled with perfectly timed rhythm and rhyme. The snowflakes act like one immeasurable consciousness, they are many, their thoughts and observations are one. They see us, they take notice, but without judging why we do or what we do.
From happy people to those living in sadness, if we are hopeful, resigned, healthy, sick, in pleasure or in pain, alive or dead, the snowflakes are always there to guide our souls to better places and to bring peace into our minds.
The audiobook is mesmerizingly performed by former news anchor, theatre and film actor Ryan Gagliardi, and the audio production is beautifully arranged with sound effects, creating a highest level of immersion and entertainment. At times the effect of listening to Ryan narrate these verses became almost hypnotic, especially combined with the howling wind and the changing cadence of the narration. Congrats, very well done!
I am really glad that I was able to experience this poem in audio format, because it was a treat from beginning to end. Definitely a literary journey that I will never forget.
I highly recommend If I Were a Snowflake to everyone and anyone fascinated by poetry because it is a one of a kind work, unique, timid and written with common sense at its heart. I will start gifting this audiobook to friends and I will keep an ear open for more works by Rodrigo Dobry.
