Review: The Moon Detente by Peter Policastro, performed by A. Joshua Leonard
The Moon Detente is an immersive and gripping science fiction geopolitical thriller by Peter Policastro, a scientist, inventor, and entrepreneur with a Ph.D. in chemistry from MIT. With his extensive experience in scientific research and technological innovation, Mr. Policastro puts his knowledge and professional skills to good use in his extraordinary first novel.
Set against a backdrop of international rivalries and humanity’s ambitions beyond Earth, the story explores what happens when technological progress and political interests collide. Following the death of a scientist and technology entrepreneur, his widow must navigate a complicated world of competing powers, shifting alliances, and ambitions that stretch from the Moon to Washington, Beijing, and all the way to the Arctic, and Russia.
Reminiscent of For All Mankind, the novel combines geopolitical intrigue with space exploration and speculative fiction, offering a detailed and vivid vision of a future in which scientific breakthroughs could reshape international relations. The story provides plenty to think about without losing sight of the human interests at the heart of its conflicts.
The narrator, A. Joshua Leonard, does a fantastic job bringing the audiobook version of The Moon Detente to life. His performance is enthusiastic and entertaining, maintaining a great pace throughout the over 20-hours production. He delivers the story in an engaging manner, making it easy and enjoyable to follow its developments and remain immersed in the narrative experience.
The Moon Detente is an excellent audiobook with fascinating characters and credible scenarios that make its speculative elements all the more compelling. I recommend it to anyone looking for a thrilling geopolitical story with science fiction elements, but especially to those who enjoy exploring how technological progress could shape our world and our future.
I am really looking forward to more books from Mr. Policastro and I hope that he will continue the collaboration with narrator A. Joshua Leonard.
