Review: Other Worlds Than These by Stephen King and Peter Straub, performed by Patton Oswalt – Editor’s Choice Award for Excellence in Entertainment

Hello, dear audiobook friends! If you have been following my reviews for a while, you already know how much I enjoy Stephen King, so a new King audiobook is always something I look forward to.
With Other Worlds Than These, there was an extra reason to be excited because this story takes us back to The Talisman, Black House and The Dark Tower, three worlds that have given me some wonderful listening experiences over the years.
Other Worlds Than These is the third and final book in The Talisman Trilogy, bringing Jack Sawyer back many years after we first met him. Jack is older now and facing a threat that could destroy our world and many others, taking the story back into the Territories and toward Mid-World. There is mystery, surprises, and a lot of Dark Tower references that fans are sure to enjoy.
The story behind the novel is also meaningful because Peter Straub, Stephen King’s friend and co-author, passed away in 2022, but he had started working on the idea for this book before his death, and Stephen King later completed the novel using material Straub had prepared.
I absolutely loved listening to this audiobook. The writing is brilliant and flawless, the characters feel alive, and the plot kept me entertained with its mystery and surprises. All of these make for a gripping and thoroughly entertaining listening experience.
I also have to talk about the narration because, before starting this audiobook, I had some doubts. The Talisman and Black House were narrated by the absolutely fantastic Frank Muller, who has also brought to life some of the Dark Tower books. His performances became such an important part of my experience with these stories that I wondered how someone else would approach this new adventure.
Patton Oswalt, an award-winning actor, comedian and writer known for his stand-up comedy, television work and films including Ratatouille, Young Adult and Big Fan, has given his best to this audiobook, and it shows. I really enjoyed his performance, he handles the story and its characters with great care and reverence. Stephen King also appears briefly at the end to read the afterword, which he does with most of his audiobooks, a thing which I always appreciate.
Stephen King continues to delight and entertain us constant readers endlessly, and it is always a good day when a new King audiobook comes out!
For flawless writing and perfect narration, Other Worlds Than These receives my highest praise: the Editor’s Choice Award for Excellence in Entertainment. This award celebrates the exceptional collaboration between the author and the narrator, which elevates the narrative experience to the highest level of immersion and enjoyment possible, and it is given to all of them together.
Congratulations, and thank you for the entertainment!
