Mirror Boy, a new psychological coming-of-age audiobook by Jeremy Spiegel, available now, performed by award-winning narrator Fred Berman
Hello again, dear audiobook friends!
Today’s spotlight article is dedicated to Mirror Boy, a new psychological coming-of-age audiobook by Jeremy Spiegel, available now and performed by award-winning narrator Fred Berman.
With a story that explores family dysfunction, the search for a father figure, identity, and the power of the unconscious mind, Mirror Boy sounds extremely promising. The story follows sixteen-year-old Jason Rofeor as he tries to find his own way while dealing with an unstable home life and searching for a better understanding of himself.
The audiobook has a duration of 11 hours and is performed by award-winning actor and audiobook narrator Fred Berman. With Berman’s experience across theatre, film, television, and audiobook narration, I am looking forward to hearing how he brings Jason’s story to life.
Now, let’s take a closer look at the Publisher’s Summary:
Once again, Jason Rofeor’s mother has locked him out of the house naked from the ankles up, only now he is sixteen and no longer willing to tolerate her abusive behaviors.
Mirror Boy chronicles his search for a father figure—having lost his dad to divorce years before—while living with his mentally unstable mother and her revolving door of unsavory men. Only through his ritual of “mirror time” is Jason ultimately able to access his authenticity and begin directing his own life.
This contemporary coming-of-age novel offers listeners with psychologically impaired parents a lens for viewing, through the turmoil, clear pathways to self-determination. Simultaneously it extends an invitation to welcome the intelligence of the unconscious mind as a source of healing.
Also, let me tell you a little bit about our author, Jeremy Spiegel, and the talented narrator who brings Mirror Boy to life.
Jeremy Spiegel
Jeremy Spiegel, a practicing psychiatrist and father of three children, was born and raised on Long Island, New York. He has co-hosted programs on The Positive Mind with Armand DiMele (WBAI), appeared as a medical expert on multiple episodes of Taboo (National Geographic), and served as an on-camera interventionist on Hardcore Hobbies (National Geographic). Author of The Mindful Medical Student (Dartmouth College Press, 2009) and Art Healing (Seishin, 2011), Spiegel divides his time between Portland, Maine, and New York City, where he lives with his wife, Crystal, and their Corgi, Rocky. This is his first novel.
Fred Berman
An award-winning actor and audiobook narrator, Fred Berman has received five Audie Awards, sixteen Earphone Awards, and two Odyssey Awards. He has had a long-running performance as Timon in Broadway’s The Lion King, as well as other theater, film, and television credits including The Normal Heart, New Amsterdam, and Law & Order. Like author Jeremy Spiegel, Berman was raised on Long Island, giving him a personal connection to the setting and era that shape the novel.
I will return soon with a full review of Mirror Boy, but until then, take care, stay safe, and don’t forget, always listen with your heart.
