Review: Poison Pill by Anthony Lee, narrated by the author

Poison Pill is the third audiobook in the Dr. Mark Lin Medical Thrillers series written by Anthony Lee. If you’ve followed the series from the beginning, you already know that Mr. Lee enjoys exploring the darker side of modern medicine, where good intentions, corporate interests, and scientific innovation can sometimes collide in dangerous ways.
In this new installment, Dr. Mark Lin, the series protagonist, is faced with two medical mysteries that quickly become impossible to ignore. A young man develops severe kidney failure after taking an herbal weight-loss supplement, while another patient begins experiencing troubling breathing problems after starting a popular anti-obesity medication.
What initially look like separate cases soon lead Mark toward a deeper investigation involving both the pharmaceutical industry and the world of herbal supplements. As he digs further into the problem, the story gradually reveals a much larger web of deception surrounding so-called miracle cures.
I appreciate how naturally the medical elements fit into the narrative and how the science adds another layer of authenticity to the story. This never slows the pace, but quite the opposite, it helps build tension as Mark pieces together the truth behind the dangerous treatments affecting his patients.
As with the previous audiobooks in the series, Anthony Lee narrates the story himself. I always enjoy hearing authors read their own work, and that is certainly the case here as well.
His delivery feels clear and confident, and because he knows the characters and the medical context so well, the narration keeps the story engaging, interesting, and captivating from beginning to end.
Poison Pill is another solid entry in the Dr. Mark Lin Medical Thrillers series, and if you enjoy medical thrillers that mix suspense, science, and timely real-world themes, this audiobook is definitely worth checking out.
