Review: Troubles with Teamwork, Mickie McKinney, Boy Detective book 2 by R. L. Fink, narrated by Hannah Edelson
Troubles with Teamwork is the second short story starring the charming Mickie McKinney, the second awesome audiobook featuring Maple-Ridge Middle School’s former one and only Private Detective. Well, this time around things have changed a little and our witty hero has taken on an apprentice. Excuse me, partner, depending on who you ask, of course.
It was an absolute pleasure and delight to spend one hour and a half in the company of such colorful, endearing and lifelike characters. I absolutely love Mickie and Sam since I made their acquaintance in The Case of the Absent Answers and now with the two of them working together, searching for missing pets or trying to figure out what the cafeteria is serving to young students, some really hilarious things are bound to happen.
But when each of them is hired by two different clients to resolve the same case on different ends, we as listeners are in for a treat!
Extremely gifted author R.L. Fink once again has written with love and care a beautifully crafted story that successfully combines excellent character development with humor and mystery.
Although this fantastic series of short stories is usually targeting kids and teenagers, I think it is also perfect for those young at heart!
Once again, the writing is absolutely fantastic, witty and smart, the action moves fast, the mystery is revealed in a funny, but natural way, and the characters are some of the most endearing and vivid in recent memory.
Voiceover artist, singer, and narrator Hannah Edelson delivers for the second time in a row one of the most energetic and riveting performances that I have ever experienced in an audiobook dedicated to young adults!
Hannah is perfectly suited for bringing to life these unforgettable kids and their adventures. I can’t think of anyone who could have done a better job! I love her narration, her voice is young and absolutely beautiful! I can’t wait to hear Hannah again, either in Mickie’s next chapter or in another, totally different, audiobook.
She reads with enthusiasm, acts with talent, switches between voices and accents easily and has managed to keep a smile on my face for the entire duration of this excellent audio production. I am almost 40 years old now, but Troubles with Teamwork and The Case of the Absent Answers have delighted and entertained me tremendously. Yes, from time to time we need to take a step back from all the complicated things in life and just enjoy a short story that will make us feel again the nostalgia from our childhood and early school years.
Ruby and Hannah are once again a force of nature together and I have absolutely no doubts that they will entertain us for many years to come with their combined talents!
Troubles with Teamwork is another great chapter in what will become a remarkable journey. Pick it up for yourself or for your kid, because it touches on some really important themes, such as the meaning of friendship, doing the right thing even if it’s not profitable for you, and how to deal with loss.
I will be eagerly awaiting the next case, but until then, I highly recommend Troubles with Teamwork and The Case of the Absent Answers to young adults and grown-ups alike! Ruby‘s stories are always guaranteed to pack more heart, more soul, and more good vibes than others which are even 5 times as lengthy as these.
We hope that you enjoyed this article and, if you did, that you will share it with your friends on social media.
