New fantasy audiobook Caput Mundi: The Head of the World is available now from Harvard alum and Korean-American author B.R. Kang
Hello again, dear Audiobooks friends! In today’s spotlight article I’m really happy to let you know that Harvard alum and Korean-American author B.R. Kang has released Caput Mundi: The Head of the World: Book 1: Enarii in audiobook format.
This almost 9-hour-long fantasy debut audiobook is performed by Laura Clifton. Set in an alternate Ancient Rome, with just enough familiarity to parallel modern-day America, this book brings into focus some universal, timely themes of grappling with identity versus legacy and rebelling against oppressive systems.
The first of an action-packed 5-book middle-grade series will appeal to readers of all ages. Underpinned with a deep sense of hope, Caput Mundi: The Head of the World will inspire readers to step into their own power.
As always, I will be reviewing this audiobook as well, but here is some praise for Caput Mundi:
- “Kang’s lively debut packs magic, adventure, and a taste of alchemy into a middle-grade thrill ride.” –BookLife Reviews

Now, let’s take a look at the Publisher’s Summary, and after that, I will introduce you to our author and narrator.
When Niil Terra sets off to find his missing parents, he ends up in Caput Mundi, a dazzling place filled with flourishing innovation and alchemical wonders. It is also the home of enarii, a shape-shifting metal that can be willed into any shape, whether it be swords, forks, or fly swatters.
As Niil’s talent for shaping enarii emerges, he discovers something he’s never had before: a place where he belongs.
But when secrets about enarii – and Niil’s parents – begin to surface, he is faced with an impossible choice that could cost far more than he’s prepared to lose Caput Mundi: The Head of the World is a middle grade fantasy adventure for ages 9-12 about friendship, courage, and standing up for what’s right. Perfect for those who love imaginative middle grade fantasy series filled with magical cities, mystery, and unforgettable adventures.

B.R. Kang is a 1.5-generation Korean-American, unapologetic foodie, Harvard alum, and constant daydreamer. Her debut novel, Caput Mundi, has been nearly twenty years in the making – rooted in what-ifs, countless revisions, hundreds of rejections, and a stubborn belief that good stories are worth fighting for.
When she’s not writing, she’s in the kitchen experimenting with recipes or exploring flavors from around the world. Learn more about her and her work at CaputMundiBooks.com.
Laura Clifton‘s interest in acting came at the age of eight when she was cast in a hotel commercial overseas – and since then, she has showcased her versatility by portraying a diverse array of characters, including Susana Dickinson and roles from Tennessee Williams and Anton Chekhov.
More recently, she’s been best known for her film and television work in the “Happy Death Day” franchise (Blumhouse Productions, Universal), the aforementioned “Alamo” (Touchstone Pictures), “My Generation” (ABC Studios), and “The King,” among others.
Her childhood was marked by a unique upbringing in Saudi Arabia, where her father worked for Aramco Oil’s computer science division. During this time, Laura attended an international school and traveled the world when her father spent extended periods on assignments outside of the Kingdom (Holland) and on holidays (Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Egypt, Switzerland). While fluent in English and conversational in French, she possesses an advanced elementary proficiency in Arabic and Korean – however, her first experience in an American school did not occur until she reached junior high.
After spending most of her teenage and young adult years in front of the camera, Laura is beginning to explore the world from other angles, including writing and working behind the camera. Stay tuned for what’s in store next!
I will return soon with a full review for Caput Mundi: The Head of the World, but until then, take care, stay safe, and don’t forget, always listen with your heart!
