Today’s spotlight article is dedicated to Low Flying, a crime novel that is also available as an audiobook written and narrated by freelance New Zealand author, John Reynolds.

He regularly narrates audiobooks for Blind Low Vision NZ but really enjoyed the challenge of performing his own novel. It added an additional dimension to the story as he recorded the dialogue and interpreted the emotions for each of the male and female characters, which included New Zealand, English, South African, and Russian accents.

This work of fiction should appeal to everyone who is fascinated by aircrafts and well-plotted international action adventure books.

Mr. Reynolds has been very pleased by the reviews and responses to Low Flying from a variety of readers who are interested in flying, a good crime story, or both.

Due to the success of the print version, he narrated and recorded Low Flying. The audio production has a runtime of a little over 9 hours and a half. The action is set in Auckland, St Petersburg, and Afghanistan.

Now, let’s take a look at the Publisher’s Summary, and after that, I’ll tell you more about our author and narrator.

Matt, a naive flying student, and his charming but crooked instructor Jason Collins come to blows over Fleur, Matt’s older girlfriend.

All three of them fall foul of Zhukov, a Russian crime boss in Auckland, New Zealand.

Zhukov wants to muscle in on Collins’ drug smuggling, and he won’t stop at kidnapping – or murder. Matt needs all his new flying skills to rescue the kidnap victims and bring Zhukov and Collins to justice.

John has traveled and worked in many places including Eastern Europe, Canada, the USA, the UK, Zimbabwe, Malaysia, Australia, and New Zealand. His travel and experiences are reflected in his writing, which has included musicals, screenplays and novels, details of which are available on his website.

He has a BA and Ph.D. from the University of Auckland, and an MA from San Jose State University, California. John also provides an entertaining illustrated author talk about his travels and writing – in person or through social media.

I will return with a full review for Low Flying in February, but until then, take care, stay safe, and don’t forget, always listen with your heart. Happy listening, everyone!

We hope that you enjoyed this article and, if you did, that you will share it with your friends on social media.
