Brett Gets Hammered by David D’Aguanno sounds promising as an Audiobook
Hello, dear Audiobooks Fans! I am really glad to let you now that I will review very soon Brett Gets Hammered, the 6th novel in the Brett Cornell series of Mysteries by David D’Aguanno which is available in Audiobook Format. I enjoyed another story by Mr. D’Aguanno written as David Dennis and thought to explore his other series as well. The audiobook is narrated by Travis Henry Carter, is over 8 hours and a half in lenght and it is self-published by the author.
I asked the author to provide me with more details about the main character and this is the response I received:
“I started writing the Brett Cornell novels over twenty years ago, which accounts for the 1980s setting of Brett’s adventures. The novels are not meant to be entirely realistic. That is, in the real world, Brett would certainly have been murdered by somebody whom he’d ripped off or victimized in some manner. Plus, it’s highly unlikely that he would get away with even a small amount of the unscrupulous behavior he exhibits, especially since he never pays for anything, and pretty much does exactly as he pleases with little or no regard for the law, or even simple rules of civility.
At the same time, I’m hoping that his wisecracks and outrageous conduct might come across as humorous and entertaining, and a certain catharsis may even be felt when Brett gets what he deserves — which happens more often than not, throughout the course of the nine novels I have completed, so far.”
The Publisher Summary for Brett Gets Hammered reveals the following plot points:
The beautiful and alluring Tammy Rankin and her brother Andy were positively grief-stricken when their well-to-do father died of a fatal heart attack. In fact, their grief was intensified when they realized that their young stepmother stood to inherit his vast fortune – that is, unless they could somehow suggest foul play and pin a murder rap on the woman, notwithstanding her probable innocence.
They obviously needed to enlist the services of someone who was totally devoid of any amount of scruples whatsoever.
A perfect cue, then, for the entrance of self-proclaimed unscrupulous bastard Brett Cornell who, as expected, is instantly attracted to the prospect of getting his own greedy hands on a portion of the Rankin inheritance – and on the lovely Tammy Rankin herself!
However, will his unscrupulous nature alone, coupled with his stunning Adonis-like features, be enough for him to pull it off? Especially when he’s been spending the last few months of his life in a state of almost constant inebriation?
You can find out more about this series from the Facebook Page and the official Blog. It seems that “Brett Gets Hammered” has been selected as a finalist in the Humor category in this year’s Independent Audiobook Awards,
From his dedicated page on Audible we find out that David Dennis was born, raised, and educated in Providence, Rhode Island, and chose a career in teaching English in a neighboring city. Ever since he was in fifth grade, he’s enjoyed writing stories of one sort or another, and while attending college, he became immersed in the writing of a gigantic fictional family saga. Much later, he basically extracted one of the sub-plots of that family saga and expanded it into the present novel “Why She Left Us.”
I started listening to Brett Gets Hammered last night and will post a review next week.
