The Smoke (Tales From a Revolution - New-York): Tales From a Revolution, Book 3

Hello again, dear audiobooks friends! Today, October 12th, is #IndigenousPeoplesDay, and, in that spirit, I want to shine a spotlight on The Smoke, an interesting historical fiction audiobook handling this topic. This is the third book in the Tales From a Revolution series from author Lars D. H. Hedbor. The audio production is narrated by Shamaan Casey  with a run time of almost 5 hours and the publisher is Brief Candle Press.

If you like learning more about the plot, you can check out the Publisher’s Summary:

As the quiet cycle of life in the forested realm of the Skarure is shattered by the outbreak of war between the British and Colonial forces, the old alliances of the Haudenosaunee Confederation are pulled in divergent directions, pitting brother against brother, even within the clans.

Thrust into the middle of this maelstrom, young Joseph Killeen will rely upon the guidance of an unexpected community to decide not only what is right and wrong, but ultimately, who he even is.

About the narrator, Shamaan Casey, we find out more from his website:

I was born in 1996 and raised in Converse, TX. Growing up, I always watched a lot of animation, which gave me a deep appreciation for voice acting, which only grew as the years went on. Even from a young age, I had a voice that commanded the attention of others. Though not an attention seeker, I always noticed how heads would turn when I spoke, and I was often compared to James Earl Jones and Morgan Freeman, even in middle school. When I chose to pursue a career in culinary arts and work as a food salesman, everyday people would tell me that I should be in radio. With years of public speaking experience thanks to my religious ministry, I finally yielded to all of the advice I had received over the years and finally embraced getting into the world of voice-over by making audiobooks.

Now, I combine my vocal talents with my love of reading to help bring stories to life. When I’m not reading, I’m cooking, baking, or gaming. Whatever I’m doing, I’ve got a story to tell.

Lars D. H. Hedbor is a Historical Fiction writer who’s stories are inspired by the Civil War and by events surrounding that period in history. You can find out more about him on Goodreads:

What made the American Colonists turn their back on their King, and fight for independence? How were they different from us–and how were their hopes and fears familiar to our own hearts?

These are the sorts of questions that I think are important to ask in examining the American Revolution, and in the pages of my novels, I suggest some possible answers.

I am an amateur historian, linguist, brewer, fiddler, astronomer and baker. Professionally, I am a technologist, marketer, writer and father of six daughters.

My love of history drives me to share the excitement of understanding the events of long ago, and how those events touch us still today.

Last year I reviewed another audiobook narrated by Mr. Casey and I felt that he really gives life to all the characters with different voices and accents, while at the same time, moving the story along seamlessly. He has a great voice, just perfect for this kind of narration.
