Hello, dear audiobooks friends! Today’s spotlight article features Retribution, a darkly gripping psychological thriller from esteemed author Lawrence Gold. The audiobook version is performed by Keith Jedlicka, it’s almost 9 hours in duration, and it has been published in audiobook format by Grass Valley Publishing

I’m halfway through the story and I like it a lot so far. Of course, I will soon return with a full review.

Now, let’s take a look at the Publisher’s Summary and after that, I’ll introduce you to our author and narrator.

Can the pursuit of justice go too far? The kidnapping, torture, rape, and murder of Dr. Joshua West’s nine-year-old daughter, Mattie, shatters his life. He lives for the capture, trial, conviction, and punishment of her killer.

Fate, however, has its own grotesque form of justice – the killer’s release on a technicality, never to be tried again. A gripping story of a grieving father’s thirst for justice, Retribution exposes the hard truth about what happens when law fails the innocent and leads them down a dark path from which they may never return.

Larry was born in the Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn, moved to Queens, and then his family ascended to the Island (Long Island).

After graduating from Valley Stream Central High School, Larry went to Adelphi, a college then, a university now, and then to medical school in Chicago.

The war in Vietnam interrupted Larry’s postgraduate medical training with a year in Colorado Springs and another as a Battalion Surgeon in Vietnam. He spent seven months in the Central Highlands with the 4th Infantry and five months in an evacuation hospital in Long Binh outside Saigon where he ran the emergency room.

Larry returned to the USA intact in 1968 to complete his training in internal medicine and diseases of the kidney, nephrology. Larry worked for twenty-three years in Berkeley, California in a hospital-based practice and served as Chief of Internal Medicine and Family Practice and as an active member of the quality assurance committee.

Before fate could intervene (Larry learned this lesson from his patients), Larry and his wife, Dorlis, retired in October 1995. They sailed under the Golden Gate Bridge for a life at sea in Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean.

Four years later, exhausted from repairing everything on board, (often many times) they sold the sailboat and within a year took the lazy man’s out; they bought a Nordic Tug trawler. They motored around Florida, the Bahamas, and the entire East Coast and Canada.

Larry has written twenty-one novels, seventeen in the Brier Hospital Series, and two non-fiction books, Talking to your Physician…, a lighthearted look at the patient/doctor relationship and The Write Word at the Right Time.

Larry writes primarily to entertain, but he can’t help but pass on to readers observations and beliefs culled from years of practice, and yes, his biases, too. In fiction, Larry strives for realism in portraying the medical scene that is gripping without being melodrama or gimmicky.

With even a minor degree of success in writing novels, comes responsibility to readers. Larry attempts to produce honest material that reflects his beliefs. Exposing these beliefs to the public through Larry’s writing requires courage, stupidity, or both. Larry’s fans have been generous, and although nobody enjoys criticism, He has learned much from that, too.

The novel that expresses most clearly my candor, and my bias, is Larry’s novel, For the Love of God that reflects his attitude toward those who are willing to sacrifice the lives of their children for their personal religious beliefs.

Larry lives in beautiful Grass Valley with 7-year-old Wesley, a rescue and Billy the Kid, a 5-year-old Yorkie who’s too cute for his own good.

Keith Jedlicka, a former dot-com era tech guy and recovering small market radio news anchor and disc jockey, has been an audiobook narrator and voice talent for 22 years. Originally from Massachusetts, he can still break out the thickest New England accent on demand. He lives in Florida with his wife and one very vocal Siberian Husky.

As always, I’ll see you in a few weeks with the full review for Retribution, but until then, take care, stay safe, and don’t forget, always listen with your heart!
