Review: Wayfaring Stranger by James Lee Burke, narrated by Will Patton
Wayfaring Stranger is the first novel in the Weldon Holland series written by best-selling and award-winning author James Lee Burke.
The characters and the events in Wayfaring Stranger stayed with me for a long time and while I was listening, I felt that I was there!
The action opens in 1934 and the Depression is bearing down when 16-year-old Weldon Avery Holland has a chance meeting with the infamous Bonnie and Clyde.
From there, we move to though war-torn fields of World War II, to the liberation of a concentration camp and after that, we return to the United States in the full swing of the oil drilling era. This is all I’m willing to tell you about the story because I am always fearful of spoiling the plot.
Gripping storytelling, a flawless writing style, great character development, vivid descriptions and a perfect performance delivered by multiple award-winning actor and narrator Will Patton make Wayfaring Stranger a literary masterpiece!
The narration is top-notch, perfectly balanced, exquisitely detailed, and manages to elevate and enrich the narrative experience! Will Patton is out of this world when it comes to bringing to life these unforgettable characters, the vividly described events and masterfully thought out scenarios.
Gripping, compelling, poignant, immersive, intriguing, dramatic, poetic and highly entertaining, Wayfaring Stranger will make the listener a witness to an unforgettable adventure penned by one of the greatest American writers out there.
Add to that the flawless narration from one of the best voices in the audiobooks industry which keeps the story going and the action flowing from the relatively quiet, but entertaining opening right to the highly entertaining epilogue, and you will probably have in your ears one of the best audiobooks you’ve listened to in years!
