Hello again, dear audiobooks friends! With today’s spotlight article, I hope to peak your interest in a dark paranormal mystery which is available in audiobook format. Prelude is the first book in the Alec Winters Series, written by Chariss K. Walker. The audio production is narrated by Walt Allen and is a little under 5 hours in duration.

Let’s take a look at the Publisher’s Summary for Prelude and after that we will move on to bios for author and narrator:

A young man is supernaturally transformed!

It all began when 17-year-old Alec, a New Orleans teen jock, discovered a terrible family secret involving his younger sister, Catalina. Alec’s ensuing rage and desire for retribution took over. His fury was the catalyst that propelled Alec into this paranormal change.

Was the Winters’ family secret instrumental in changing Alec’s life, or was it his destiny? As both angel and demon, he is a protector of innocent victims and a punisher of those who hurt them.

Prelude, a prequel to Crescent City, shares a behind-the-scenes look at Alec’s life before that fateful night and gives little known facts about Alec’s relationship with Sabrina, Chaz, and Danae.

This dark urban fantasy and supernatural suspense thriller is only the beginning of Alec’s controversial story as an angel and demon. You can discover more about his life on the gritty streets of New Orleans in Crescent City, Port City, and Harbor City, the last installment in this emotionally charged four-book series.

Author Chariss K. Walker, M.Msc., Reiki Master/Teacher, writes both fiction and nonfiction books with a metaphysical and spiritual component. Those who search for meaning and the supernatural in themselves will enjoy her books whether readers of fiction or nonfiction. Her fiction expresses a visionary/metaphysical message that illustrates growth in a character’s consciousness while utilizing a paranormal aspect. Her nonfiction books share insight, hope, and inspiration.

Although Chariss writes some dark-fiction books about insanely dark topics that are not suitable for faint-hearted readers, there is always an essential question of the abstract nature that gives a reader increased awareness and perception. She also writes cozy mysteries and inspirational women’s studies fiction.

Due to her own vision problems, many of her books are in large print paperback. Chariss encourages you to follow her on social media – Facebook, Twitter, Goodreads, Instagram, BookBub and subscribe to her email newsletter here:  You can learn more about Chariss at chariss.com.

While in college, narrator Walt Allen interned at WLFJ-FM radio station in Greenville, South Carolina. His internship led to part-time on-air work that quickly became an obsession during the next three years; however, his educational endeavors led to graduate school and Seminary.

Walt spent the next 30 plus years as a minister and preacher before moving to North Dakota in 2010. Now that his sons are grown and gone, he excitedly uses his gifts and skills in his return to the voice world. Walt Allen’s voice is described as “a rugged, beguiling, embrace behind the microphone.”

I already listened to the Prelude audiobook, I enjoyed it very much and will post a full review very soon. But until then take care, stay safe and don’t forget, always listen with your heart!
