Review: Pullman by JoAnne McFarland, narrated by the author and Schuyler Grant
Pullman is a moving collection of poetry from respected and award-winning artist, poet, and curator JoAnne McFarland that features themes of labor, love, life and loss using as its backdrop the treatment of the Pullman car porters of the late 19th century. The poems in this collection reflect on and interact with cultural and historical sources, from the slave narratives of Harriet Jacobs, to the creative output of contemporary artists.
Together with Schuyler Grant, an illustrator, designer, and voice artist, McFarland beautifully brings to life these exquisite pieces of poetry in a mesmerizing and entertaining performance that examines and reveals the relationships between the events of the troubled American past and of the turbulent present. The writing is beautiful, the descriptions are vivid and the narration is excellent. It’s a moving collection of poetry that you will never forget. Do yourself a favor and pick up this half an hour of captivating entertainment for the soul. If you like poetry, you will love Pullman.
