Hello again, dear audiobooks friends! In today’s article I would like to draw your attention to Three Graves, a really interesting Tarantino-style revenge novel that has recently been released as an audiobook. This is an over-the-top, bloody and gory Noire tale written beautifully by Zack Kaplan and narrated with enthusiasm by voiceover artist Maxwell Hamilton.

The audio production is a little over nine hours in duration and I already made my way through half of it, so I can tell you that I absolutely love it! Let’s take a look at the Publisher’s Summary below and after that I will tell you a few things about the author and the narrator.

A wisecracking former LAPD Detective has his life shattered, his wife murdered, narrowing escaping the wrath of a ruthless gangster. What started off as mistaken identity becomes personal, when Colin Graves sets a plan into motion; a quest for vengeance. Fueled by booze, painkillers, acerbic wit, Colin teams up with his brother to take down the man that took away everything. It’s like John Wick meets Beaches with a twist of Taken 3 and a splash of Deadpool.

With a cast of characters, running the gamut from struggling actors to albino henchman, a pedophile, a serial killer, the Russian Mob, and the Yakuza, this melting pot sets a tone complemented by the backdrop only Los Angeles can provide. Twists, turns, reversals. Blood, guts, violence. Pop culture references, hilarity, hyperbole. It’s a clever listen for accomplished listeners, but also a fun ride for nitwits. Influenced by the films of Quentin Tarantino, the writing of Raymond Chandler, James Ellroy, Elmore Leonard, and Dr. Seuss, Three Graves hits harder than Mike Tyson with more heart than Secretariat.

Zack Kaplan was born in Long Branch, NJ. Like any ordinary reverse Benjamin Button, started life as a tiny baby and is now an adult; with a few hiccups along the way. At age twelve was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Disease and his treatment protocol consisted of both chemotherapy and radiation. Disappointed that the only superpower radiation granted him was no superpower, he quickly came to the realization that this illness was all downside. While the hair loss was fun, it was also quite off-putting. His parents’ equal parts naive and thrifty, decided an old-lady wig from an old-school wig shop was the best way to circumvent any self-consciousness he would have in Junior High School. It took one day for him to realize he looked like Estelle Getty and opted to just wear hats. Like a Phoenix that rises from ashes, this period of time, shaped his sense of humor and gave him his unique perspective, both clearly apparent in his ‘voice’ when writing. “Three Graves,” currently available, is a fast, funny, revenge crime thriller. His writing influences are Chuck Palahniuk, Elmore Leonard, James Ellroy, and screenwriters, Quentin Tarantino and Shane Black.

Maxwell Hamilton was born and raised in Manhattan Beach, California. After doing regional theater in high school, he decided to attend UCLA’s Theater, Film, Television department as an acting major and global studies minor. After graduation in 2013, he worked in San Francisco and New York with indie theater company Rising Pheonix Rep and Rattlestick Playwrights Theater. He now lives in Los Angeles, working as an actor, director, producer, and musician. His first feature “I Don’t Feel At Home In This World Anymore” directed by Macon Blair, won the grand jury prize at Sundance Film Festival in 2017. He works as a Voice Over performer for animated shows, scripted podcasts, and narrates audiobooks. Hamilton created and runs Five Horizons Media Group and continues to produce projects in theater and film.

I will post a full review for Three Graves, but I love it so much right now that I’m sure it will be 5 stars. See you soon, but until then, take care, stay safe and don’t forget, always listen with your heart.
