Hi, Audiobooks fans! It is my pleasure today to let you know that the Audiobook version of Hurricane Hill by Chris Leicester is out now on Audible. I am a few hours into the book and it promises to be a very interesting audition for those looking for a new, fast-paced, military thriller that not only addresses the drama and the thrills of young men sent to fight for their country, but also the traumatic consequences that war has on their minds.

One fact that I find really interesting is that the book is adapted for a play that was a big success in the United Kingdom for three years, between 2013 and 2015. You can get Hurricane Hill for Free when you sign up for the 30 days Audible Trial.

The Publisher’s Summary goes as follows:

Focusing on the political unrest of the 21st century, Hurricane Hill is a fast-paced novel that examines the bond between soldiers on the battlefield and the effects that going to war has on an individual’s mentality. Hurricane Hill centers on the moral dilemma: Which life is more valuable, that of a child or a brother-in-arms?

Out in Helmand, the Insurgents are using children as young as seven as decoys in fire fights. Paul Glover, a young soldier, has to decide whether to follow his training and treat the children as normal soldiers and shoot to kill or be killed. Having become a new father himself, Paul’s actions come back to haunt him, and he is left asking himself whether he’s done the right thing.

When Paul arrives at the isolated house of a famous recluse, his past is finally faced. Hurricane Hill shows us past lives, events, and reasons for the extraordinary predicaments that the characters find themselves in. As the storm advances and threatens to destroy each of them, the young soldier’s question is examined, challenged, and ultimately answered.

The Audiobook version of Hurricane Hill is 8 hours and a half in lenght and it is performed by Roy Carruthers.

I asked Chris if he wanted to add anything more to my highlight of Hurricane Hill and this is what he said:

“It was 3 O’clock in the morning. I was feeding my newborn son, watching the air strike go in on Baghdad. Tom is now 15. History seems to be repeating itself. Never has there been a more appropriate time to listen to Hurricane Hill.”

For those of you wanting to know more about Chris, here is a short bio via Goodreads

Chris grew up in Sheffield in the UK surrounded by a wonderful mix of heavy industry and beautiful scenery. After finishing his ‘A’ levels in 1976 he went “walkabout” where he mixed 3 years of foreign travel with over 14 “horrible” temporary jobs deliberately chosen to give him a rounded experience in life. He returned back to the UK and went to study in London. From there he lived in Islington and Maidenhead for 8 years and Birmingham for 9. Then he came to see his sister in Chester for a new year’s eve party 18 years ago and stayed there ever since. He met his wife Rachel soon after and now he has two young sons, Tom and James.

He first began writing at an early age where a comprehensive school backdrop provided an interesting blend of playing football, avoiding fights and writing poetry. Much later in life he studied creative writing at Liverpool University and went on to run a writing group after that. When one of its members complained that he couldn’t get his stage play produced, Chris formed Too Write Productions over a pint of lager and his vertical learning curve in the tortuous world of theatre production began. Twelve years later Chris has new work planned up to 2016 having consecutively received good reviews in what can be a terribly brutal and unforgiving world. Chris also writes radio plays, screenplays and novels and he directs.

Chris’s recent novels and novellas include Going for the Wire, The Last Train to Jordan Road, Charlie Bangers, The Fourth Wall and The Baby Box . New work includes a new play and two new books, Florida Money and Married. But lonely.
