You should try Wedding Bells for Brett by David D’Aguanno in Audiobook Format
Hello again, dear Audiobooks Fans! As you may remember I already reviewed and highlighted two other books by this author on my blog and today is time for a third one. Wedding Bells for Brett is book 4 in the Brett Cornell Mysteries Series by David D’Aguanno.
As with all other books in this series, the audiobook is narrated by Travis Henry Carter, is over 7 hours is duration and it is self-published by the author.
The Publisher Summary for Wedding Bells for Brett reveals the following plot points:
“Gary N. and Helen W. Trank of 66 Colstone Boulevard take great pleasure in announcing the recent nuptials of their daughter Pamela Ann, and Brett Cornell….”
The above words appeared in the local newspaper, and thousands of women throughout the city immediately went into mourning!
Well, not exactly.
But private detective and self-proclaimed unscrupulous bastard Brett Cornell nearly went into cardiac arrest when, shortly thereafter, he received a personal home visit from Homicide Lieutenant James Wilson.
It seems that a beautiful young heiress had been found dead in a hotel suite under mysterious circumstances, and it wasn’t clear whether she could be identified as Pamela Ann Trank…Pamela Ann Densen…or Pamela Ann Cornell!
Will a short walk down the aisle result in an extended prison sentence for our poor, put-upon hero?
Brett once again lets his weakness for money and his fascination with beautiful women get the better of him in this fourth Brett Cornell novel set in the late 1980s.
Talking about this series, the author says the following:
“I started writing the Brett Cornell novels over twenty years ago, which accounts for the 1980s setting of Brett’s adventures. The novels are not meant to be entirely realistic. That is, in the real world, Brett would certainly have been murdered by somebody whom he’d ripped off or victimized in some manner. Plus, it’s highly unlikely that he would get away with even a small amount of the unscrupulous behavior he exhibits, especially since he never pays for anything, and pretty much does exactly as he pleases with little or no regard for the law, or even simple rules of civility.
At the same time, I’m hoping that his wisecracks and outrageous conduct might come across as humorous and entertaining, and a certain catharsis may even be felt when Brett gets what he deserves — which happens more often than not, throughout the course of the nine novels I have completed, so far.”
From his dedicated page on Audible we find out that David Dennis was born, raised, and educated in Providence, Rhode Island, and chose a career in teaching English in a neighboring city. Ever since he was in fifth grade, he’s enjoyed writing stories of one sort or another, and while attending college, he became immersed in the writing of a gigantic fictional family saga. Much later, he basically extracted one of the sub-plots of that family saga and expanded it into the present novel “Why She Left Us.”
I have already started listening to Wedding Bells for Brett last night and will post a review for it in a few weeks, after I get back from my short vacation. Fun fact, I will listen to this audiobook during my own wedding vacation, but I am a very nice guy, compared to Brett.
